Katharina Keil – Director | Writer | Producer

Katharina Keil is a multi-award-winning director, writer, and producer with over three decades of experience in the international film and television industry. She began her career as a script supervisor and assistant director, contributing to AFI award-winning films and long-running series across Australia, Germany, South Africa, and the UK.

Her directorial work has earned global recognition. Her short film Waves won her Best Female Filmmaker at the FilmOneFest and received accolades at the Cannes World Film Festival. Her most recent work, Opa-Pappou is a poignant, multilingual coming-of-age story continues to make its mark on the international circuit. It won the Jury Award for Best Short Screenplay at the London Women Film Festival, was nominated at the Indie European Cinema & Screenplay Festival, and is currently in consideration for the Deutscher Kurzfilmpreis 2025.

Fluent in English and German and deeply connected to her Greek-Australian heritage, Katharina creates emotionally resonant stories that explore identity, legacy, and transformation. She is currently developing several original projects including a daring feature and a digital comedy series and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of filmmakers.

She is a member of the Australian Directors Guild (ADG), MEAA, and the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG).
