About KK

Katharina Keil – Director | Writer | Producer

Katharina Keil is a German-born, Australian-based writer, director and producer with over thirty years of experience working across the international film and television industry. She began her career as a script supervisor and assistant director, contributing to award-winning feature films and long-running series across Australia, Germany, South Africa, and the UK experience that continues to shape her precise, performance-driven approach to directing.

Her directorial work has gained international recognition for its emotional intelligence, warmth, and clarity of vision. Her short film Waves received multiple international awards, including Best Female Filmmaker at FilmOneFest and accolades at the Cannes World Film Festival. Her recent short Opa-Pappou, a tri-lingual coming-of-age drama (English, German, Greek), has screened widely on the international festival circuit and has received multiple awards and nominations.

Katharina’s work is grounded in character and human connection, often exploring themes of identity, legacy, and transformation. Drawing on her long-form storytelling background, she is particularly interested in the quiet moments between people where emotional shifts occur and meaning is revealed without being announced.

She is currently developing a slate of original projects across film and television, including feature films and a comedy television series, while continuing to direct short-form work. Alongside her creative practice, Katharina is passionate about mentoring emerging filmmakers and supporting pathways into the screen industry through practical, on-set knowledge.

Katharina is a member of the Australian Directors Guild (ADG), MEAA, and the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG).
